Course Description

This one day course is delivered on site at your hospital by a multidisciplinary faculty and is for the whole surgical team: Surgeons, Anaesthetists, Nurses and Operating Department personnel of all grades. It aims to introduce the non- technical skills and other human factors related to safe surgical practice.

Course Content:

This is an interactive course involving a mixture of short presentations, video simulated scenarios and small group discussions. There is also reference to other high risk industries and how they manage safety issues.

Various adverse events in surgical patients and the underlying mechanisms will be discussed with particular reference to non-technical skills, the influence of stress and fatigue and other systemic causes of failure. Current strategies to address potential errors are explored in order to provide the theatre team with practical solutions to improve intraoperative safety.
